Winter Park Welcomes USF CU and Its ‘Better Banking for All’ Mission

Local leaders, business owners, and community partners gathered this week at the Winter Park Events Center to officially welcome USF Credit Union and its “Better Banking for All” mission to the city.

The event featured passionate stories from the community, a welcome from manager of the new Winter Park branch, Miguel Marrero, and inspiring remarks from USF CU President and CEO Rick Skaggs.

“We’re coming into the community leading with heart - looking to deepen relationships and care for each person we’ve come in contact with,” Rick says. “The story is our members. We’re not just a branch, we are part of the fabric of what makes up a community and we’re going to take our passion for what we do and bring it to Winter Park.”

An Army of Support

Terri Robbins, President of BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation, also shared stories and talked about the impact USF CU has already made.

“I feel like we just got a boost to our army,” Terri says. “We always say we need an army of people to help us serve the families, serve the kids and we’ve already seen what USF Credit Union can do two and a half hours away. We can’t wait to see what happens now that you're sharing a zip code with us.”

For Thresa Giles, CEO of Hope & Help, the arrival of USF CU is personal.

During the event, several beautiful pieces of art were also on display from award-winning local artist Heather Nagy.

Some of Heather’s work is hanging in the new Winter Park branch - it complements the location designed to be more than a place to bank but a place where beauty, community, and human connection come together.

“The artwork helps people feel at home and when you go into some place a little nervous and you see things that are familiar - you’re like - OK, calm, Heather says. “All my work is hopefully vibrant and hopeful but also like a comfort to people as they see places that they know and have memories of.”
