Today, we’re releasing a new episode of USF Credit Union’s special sock-puppet financial wellness series - and this time, it’s all about protecting you from modern-day scams and fraud.

What to Watch For

Like our first episode, this one starts with a little comedy before shifting into information you need to know.

Joining the puppets is USF CU cybersecurity expert Jeff Billy, who brings real-world insight to a growing problem affecting people of all ages.

Jeff’s message is simple: scams don’t look the way they used to.

Years ago, fraud was easier to spot - suspicious ATM activity, robocalls, or obvious phishing emails. Today, scammers are smarter, more personal, and increasingly active on social media, where fake profiles, urgent messages, and manipulated trust can make fraud harder to recognize.

That’s why Jeff encourages people to slow down before reacting.

Pause. Verify. Ask someone you trust - especially someone tech-savvy - before clicking, sending money, or sharing personal information.

It’s a small step that can prevent a major loss.

More Than Just a Moment

This puppet-led series is part of a broader effort at USF CU to meet people not just in traditional banking spaces, but in the moments where attention, curiosity, and culture intersect.
